The third annual Grietfest promises to feature international and local acts that will keep folks on the dance floor. The electronic dance music festival takes place in Cape Town and Joburg on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

The main event is on Saturday.

Grietfest features some of South Africa’s best on the decks. So expect to see the likes of Jacobsnake, Niskerone, Das Kapital and more.

One of the tricks up Grietfest’s sleeves announced last week was that Bart B More, who is signed to Skrillex’s record label, Owsla Records, will perform too.

The Grietfest has teamed up with Drum n Bass gatekeepers in Joburg, Science Frikshun as well as the popular Beanstalk who are a part of all things Balkanology in the country.

So at the main festival – which is street bash-style on Carr Street in Newtown, Joburg – there will be five stages that are predominantly electronic-music based.

There will also be delightful little pockets of new sonic experiences.

Speaking of new things, this year, people have started using the hashtag #grietcarpool on Twitter so they can, as the tag suggests, carpool to the main event.

Following last year’s success with the Hotbox Express, those who live in Pretoria will be allowed to get on a bus from and back to Pretoria – for a fee – so as to avoid drinking and driving. Visit www.grietfest.com for more information.

The Grietfest takes place at The Assembly on Harrington Street, Cape Town, on Friday and at 66 Carr Street in Newtown, Joburg on Saturday. Tickets are R100 for the Cape Town event and R200 for Joburg – both available at the door. You can get tickets here. -iol.co.za
