You probably know it as the Vodacom Tower if you’re from Johannesburg but this building that most use as a landmark in the joburg skyline has a lot of history i was even surprised by what what i heard in this doccie. Great landmark that many pass by and take for granted.
It was originally built in 1975 as a monument of luxury in Johannesburg, South Africa and it housed many of the city’s wealthiest citizens. In the last 30 years the wealthy classes have moved away from the area, causing the building to fall into disrepair and become a dirty and dangerous place to live.
This short documentary by director Philip Bloom gives us a closer look at the building’s history and its its current inhabitants, who now see their home as cheap, and most importantly, safe for the first time in more than three decades.
