This past weekend on Sunday the 2nd of March 2014, the world was tuned into the 86th Annual Academy Awards Show. Besides the actual awards and the mounting anticipation amongst actors, actresses and the audiences as to who going to win the most coveted statue/ award in Hollywood – what the stars actually wear to the award’s show is just as much a part of the show too.

This year the Oscars Red Carpet Fashion was no different. The stars really came out to play, bringing their “A” game – not holding back. It was all about the details on the red carpet. Stars like Lupita Nyong’o and Pharrell Williams showed off their true personal style.

Some of the Favourites of the night were:

  1. Lupita Nyong’o:

Lupita has been making her rounds at various Red Carpet events, in stellar looks by a variety of designers. At the 2014 Oscars, Lupita once again shined like the star that she is in an ethereal powder blue Prada gown. Lupita looked ever so beautiful and radiant, as the gown’s pale colour complimented her gorgeous rich dark skin wonderfully. If I do say myself, I was a big fan of the entire ensemble. She deserved her Cinderella moment.

2. Cate Blanchett

A Hollywood veteran who has managed to always look ravishing at red carpet events and the Oscars are no exception. The Oscar winner for Best Actress won the hearts of fashion as she glowed and looked spectacular in a glittering beige Armani gown. Blanchett was truly the star of the night.

3. Jared Leto

Leto who is predominantly known for his day job as the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman, looked ever so dashing and handsome. The Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actor kept it clean and fresh in a white coat and black pants and added a pop of colour with a red bow tie. Leto has definitely earned Hollywood’s stamp of approval as an actor and a dapper star with suave style.

4. Stars don’t always get it right on the Red Carpet, and at the Oscars there were definitely some looks that did not make the cut. Hollywood’s favourite girl’s next door Jennifer Garner underwhelmed to say the least in a silver Oscar de la Renta shiny flapper-esque tiered fringe gown. Although her make-up, hair and accessories attempted to lift the look, it was not enough to dazzle the crowd.

5. Amy Adams:

Amy Adams has over the past years become somewhat of a Hollywood movie household name. However her Red Carpet looks do not seem to have the same affect on style watchers as her performances do. She has come to be known as Plain Jane as she once again managed not to dazzle in her too simple Gucci Couture navy gown. Personally I was a fan of this simply elegant look, and as they say sometimes – “Less is more”.

6. Penelope Cruz:

Penelope kept her look at this year’s Oscars safe and rather boring to say the least. Penelope wore a flowing pink Giambattista Valli Couture gown with a black belt for detail. The only aspect of this look that allowed it shine was her jewellery by Chopard jewels.

7. Camilla Alves:

Mrs. McConaughey looked absolutely ravishing and oh so darling. The pastel pink Gabriela Cadena gown complimented her sun kissed tanned skin and the delicate drapery made the look effortlessly chic. The overall look looked clean, beautiful and fierce all at the same time.

Many of the look at this year’s Oscars were for the books. It will be interesting how some of the stars that have already made fashion head waves such as Lupita Nyong’o, keep up the momentum for the rest of the year.
